This is the next step towards our vision to bring awareness to Pulmonary Hypertension while honoring Katie.
Our Katie was a vibrant loving girl. She always embraced life. Her love of family, faith, and friends was evident in everything Katie did. She was diagnosed in August 2012 with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. A disease that is a type of high blood pressure that affects the arteries in the lungs and the right side of your heart.
Pulmonary hypertension begins when tiny arteries in your lungs, called pulmonary arteries, and capillaries become narrowed, blocked or destroyed. This makes it harder for blood to flow through your lungs, and raises pressure within your lungs' arteries. As the pressure builds, your heart's lower right chamber (right ventricle) must work harder to pump blood through your lungs, eventually causing your heart muscle to weaken and eventually fail.

sMiles for Katie is dedicated to bring awareness and support the Pulmonary Hypertension Association in their efforts to bring hope to those who suffer and find a cure for this disease.
Proceeds go to Pulmonary Hypertension Association and to advocate in our local area.
In eight years sMiles for Katie has raised over $83,000 !!!

Katie was honored by Mayor Tony Perry and the Township Committee proclaiming April 30, 2022 as Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) Awareness and Katie McCarthy Day in honor of Kathryn Ann (Katie) McCarthy.
